Laura Bicego, designer and founder of the celebrated Nanis brand, has a vision – to craft jewellery which has dynamic appeal, bold and contemporary.
Do you follow an “outline” when creating your jewellery, is there a value which runs through the whole collection?
Every single Nanis collection comes from and is developed around a specific inspiration: both in daily life and during my travels my sense of curiosity is positively insatiable. I am a tireless hunter of images and sensations, I am always on the lookout for sounds, colours and surfaces which have never been seen before.
Who is the “Nanis woman”?
The Nanis woman is a woman in the most complete sense of the word: a feminine spirit with a thousand different facets, a creative soul, independent and self-assured, well aware of her own essence and the need to express herself. Open to change, modernisation and self-development. This is why I like to say that my goal is to design ready-to-wear jewellery which can be adapted and reworked according to the occasion in question and enjoyed to the full at any given moment.
Is there one collection in particular which you see as being your strong suit?
There is a little secret in every Nanis collection: an iconic piece, an emblem of versatility. This is why our clients are often amazed at the numerous different ways they can wear our jewellery! A case in point is our iconic Trasformista collection: here, bracelets and necklaces can be transformed with one simple gesture and the wearer can obtain a completely different look. One of the most popular pieces is the famous (and patented) bracelet/necklace: by simply “dropping” this bracelet it cleverly turns into a necklace!
Can you provide us with some details regarding the new collections?
The new versions we introduced this year to our collections fully reflect the general trend – in the fashion sector – towards the colder, softer end of the colour spectrum. For the second half of the year we have decided not to neglect the other shade for 2016, rose quartz: a sugary hue which will be with us until the end of December and provide us with a stunning, romantic overall looks •
