World-renowned jeweler Ippolita Rostagno joins forces with seven of the biggest names of contemporary art to create an exclusive work of genius.
Ippolita crosses the boundary between art and fashion with Charmed: a creative project that links together seven of the most important female artists working today for a unique collaborative piece of jewelry-art. Born from the synergy of the famed Italian jewelry artist and Liz Swig – collector, patron and widely respected fundraiser, also member of the board of New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art – Charmed expresses the inspirations of Laurie Simmons, Shirin Neshat, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Rachel Feinstein, Mickalene Thomas and Wangechi Mutu.
These outstanding creative minds made seven special pendants which, joined by a single gold chain, render this bracelet as precious as a work of art. Rachel Feinstein draws inspiration on the iconography of European art and culture from the sixteenth, seventeeth and eighteenth centuries. Wangechi Mutu uses art to unlock a dialogue on perception and reflect on themes like gender and racial identity.
Filmmaker Shirin Neshat is famous for a narrative style that blends political content and poetic imagery. Cindy Sherman’s photographs are largely concerned with concepts of femininity. Laurie Simmons is an internationally recognized artist, known since the 1970’s for her staged photographic works. Visual artist Mickalene Thomas creates imagery characterized by art-historical, political, and pop-cultural references.
Barbara Kruger’s works combine images from mass media and confrontational texts to challenge cultural constructions. Thanks to Charmed, these seven amazing become part of a collective masterpiece, an incredibly meaningful jewel that is released as a limited edition of 50 pieces.
