Levante: Honest music, Authentic style

The young Italian singer-songwriter talks about her relationship with jewelry, which for her is even more important than clothes.

In terms of both your music and your clothes, you have a distinctive style. Where does your original taste come from?

I wouldn’t know where the originality of my taste comes from, I’m just myself. It was even when I was little, when I decided what I wanted to wear for nursery school; It was when I was a teenager and had such a bizarre dress-sense that everybody used to stare at me and I still am today, when I wear a simple pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. It all comes naturally to me and I just follow my mood on that particular day. The same goes for music: I’m talking about honest, genuine music.

Is there a particular accessory you wear more than others?

I always wear two gold necklaces and a pair of earrings (small gold hoops), I feel naked without them.

In your opinion, what characteristic should a piece of jewelry have in order to be unique?

It has to say something about me. Always. Much more than clothes, a piece of jewelry identifies you.

Have you got a talisman?

I’ve got an orange cord with a tiny gold charm on it on my right wrist, I’ve worn it for the past three years, and I don’t know why but I can’t bring myself to take it off.

What is most precious to you?

There are many precious things in my life. If we’re talking about material things then I think the most precious object I have is an old train ticket, I used it to travel all over until the age of twenty-five. If I ever lost it, I would be inconsolable: I treasure it • (A.R.)
