The MET spring 2017 opening

The MET opens its doors to let people ‘meet’ the spring 2017 exhibition Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between

After the annual Met Gala, witch took place on Monday, May 1, the Met's Costume Institute Benefit is now ready to open the doors of its spring 2017 exhibitionRei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, on view from May 4 through September 4. The Costume Institute’s first monographic show on a living designer - since the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition in 1983 - explores and celebrates Rei Kawakubo’s work known in all the world for the unique aesthetic sensibility that challenges conventional notions of beauty, good taste, and ‘fashionability’: the clothes created by the designer for Comme des Garçons since the early 1980s demonstrate that interstices are places of meaningful connection and coexistence as well as revolutionary innovation and transformation, providing Kawakubo with endless possibilities to rethink the female body and feminine identity.

More than 140 inspirational examples organized into nine dominant and recurring aesthetic expressions of interstitiality in Kawakubo’s work will tell the story of one of the most influential designers of the last past 40 years, inviting visitors “To rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation and hybridity”, as commented Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute.
