Sculptural Jewels on Show at the Babs Gallery
Nature vs Sculpture. Photography and jewelry designers express these two parallel worlds. From Babs Art Gallery in Milan
The fragile yet perfect beauty of Nature on the one hand and the geometric shapes molded by man on the other. Besides the two parallel worlds of photography and jewelry, these are the opposites that the exhibition, scheduled to be staged in Milan from 18th February to 31st March at Babs Art Gallery in via Maurizio Gonzaga 2, plays upon. Capturing the wonder of ever-changing vegetal life on film is photographer Enzo Isaia, author of nocturnal "still-lives" taken while braving the cold among the rows of vines in his beloved Piedmont. Saplings and grapes become graceful silhouettes to be admired and almost seem to allude to something different. An original and highly personal way of giving voice to his search for perfection and the enhancement of Mother Nature’s work, caught forever in unique instants (and photos) that have led gallery owner, Ermanno Tedeschi, to define Isaia as “a painter and scenographer who, with his masterly use of light, manages to transform the fruits of the vine into authentic sculptures on paper”. Architecture and design are, instead, the sources of inspiration that three young designers, selected by Babs Art Gallery at the recent Milan Jewelry Week, have in common: Eleonora Castagnetta Botta, Paula di Dario and Lunante. Three different sensitivities that are, however, each in their own way, able to capture the expressive power of sculptural lines and cuts, transformed into jewelry that is never conventional and never evokes the déjà-vu effect. Sizable jewelry that gets itself noticed and stimulates curiosity, respecting the aim behind Babs’ research project which centers on the pleasure of being able to wear a sculpture that so much linked to the value of the material it is made of as to the creative gesture that inspired it.
