With 183K followers on Instagram, Katerina Perez reveals all the tricks to become a social world star

She moved the first steps a few years ago with a blog that has quickly become an exclusive source for all jewelry enthusiasts. Today Katerina Perez is the undisputed 'queen' of Instagram, the social media in which she manages to better express all her competence of gemologist grew up eating precious metals and gems.

How was your passion for jewelry born?

«I have loved jewelry for as long as I can remember. When I was little I used to play with my mother's and grandmother's jewelry, taking piece by piece from a jewelry box, looking at dierent stones, trying the pieces on. I was curious how the necklaces were made, earrings stayed on the ear and brace- lets wrapped around wrist.

You're an expert gemologist. When and why did you become a blogger?

«I started writing about jewelry about six years ago when I was the jewelry editor of a Lon- don-based magazine. I had a strong desire to share the beauty of jewelry with everyone who perceived it as a form of art. Since the magazine came out only four times a year, I felt the need to have another platform where I could regularly talk about my jewelry discoveries, events, publish interviews and do much more. This lead to the launch of katerinaperez.com 4 years ago».

When did you understand the importance of Instagram?

«I guess I really understood the power of Instagram when serious requests about jewelry I posted started com- ing in. Approximately two years ago I noticed that import- ant art jewelers like Suzanne Syz, Hemmerle or Cindy Chao created their profiles and even had sales on Instagram».

For a jewelry designer or a manufacturer brand, how important is to be on Instagram?

«It is a very powerful tool, but one needs to know how to work it. Posting high-quality catalogue-like pictures is not enough, the feed would look too boring. The idea is to create a fascinating visual story. This is where the brand needs to establish the message they want to pass to their followers. Posting every two, three days without any specific hashtag, just looking at the most popular ones. This is my very personal and precious advice».
