Behind the scenes of Chanel Joaillerie masterpiece

A timeless symbol and the thrill of important gems, for 53 creations in eleven sets. L’Esprit du Lion, the latest fine jewelry collection presented by Chanel Joaillerie last January in Paris, embodies the essence of Gabrielle Chanel: a progressive spirit, guided by the desire for freedom and great creative strength. Inspired by the lion, the Mademoiselle’s favorite motif, the jewels tell the story of the maison’s new era, through the strength of gold paired with diamonds, sapphires, beryls and imperial topaz.

THE LION. One of the most important emblems of the maison, Gabrielle Chanel’s favorite animal is the lion. She was also born 19 August and is a Leo. She has transformed the animal into the biographical seal of several of her creations. Whether wood, silver, bronze or alabaster, it was everywhere, even in her apartment at 31 Rue Cambon.

THE CHAIN. Featuring a timeless elegance, it is an icon of Chanel Joaillerie, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for progressively new designs. In the Eternal necklace, it is multiplied and accompanied by diamonds to give life to a sautoir model that treasures the strength and authority of the lion.

THE BERYL. In various shades that go from light yellow to orange, it takes its name from Heliodorus Beryl, the Greek name ‘Gift of the Sun’. Rare and seldomly used in fine jewelry, it’s the most audacious and original gem of the collection, an ode to light and the unconventional spirit of Gabrielle Chanel.
