Stylish, gorgeous and mahogany red: IWC Schaffhausen honors Boesch with a limited edition. The Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Boesch”
IWC Schaffhausen recognizes the heritage, art and strong innovation of Swiss boatbuilder Boesch with a second exclusive edition. Mahogany is the principal element in this selection. Aside from being the color of the dial, it is also a lavish feature in the back of the case, which has a mahogany inlay made specifically for the timepiece by Boesch itself. As a result, this classy, stylish chronograph with the IWC-manufactured 89361 calibre is the ideal companion on land or water and, of course, on any Boesch motorboat. The one-of-a-kind edition is limited to just 150 watches.

For the second time since 2008, IWC Schaffhausen pays homage to Swiss boatbuilder Boesch. The elegant, sporty Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Boesch” will be available in a limited number. “Boesch motorboats have one thing above all in common with watches from Schaffhausen: they are made with a passion for craftsmanship, and their distinguished design makes them instantly recognizable,” is how Linus Fuchs, IWC Managing Director Switzerland, describes the partnership with Boesch. With its mahogany-coloured dial, mahogany emblem and, on the inside of the glass back cover, a stylized ship’s propeller, the gorgeous sports chronograph makes several references to the craft manufactured by the exclusive boatbuilding company in the town of Kilchberg on the shores of Lake Zurich. The tough strap is made of rubber with an alligator leather inlay that makes it particularly comfy to wear. Available exclusively in Switzerland, the special edition is limited to 150 watches and can be purchased at official IWC  retailers.

What started over 90 years ago with a true love for traditional wooden boatbuilding has developed constantly over four generations and established itself as the prototype of classic high-performance mahogany motorboats. Boesch boats are epitomized by the use of high-quality materials and are a perfect combination of form and function. “IWC Schaffhausen and Boesch both stand for tradition, accuracy, and excellence, and have made international names for themselves with their high level of quality craftsmanship.” This is how Markus Boesch, General Manager and representative of the fourth generation of the Boesch boatbuilding family, describes the parallels between the two brands.

The sturdy IWC-manufactured, 89361-chronograph  calibre with flyback function and analogue display of stop times longer than a minute on a subdial makes the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Boesch”, which is water resistant to 6 bar, a preferred companion for water sport enthusiasts. The white stopwatch hand, the flange with its quarter-second scale for measuring short stop times, and the luminescent seconds and hour hands and indices are an indication of the watch’s sporting qualities. The screwin crown, protective shoulders and the chronograph pushbuttons – the latter reminiscent of the bitts found on the deck of ships – underscore the special status of the Yacht Club Chronograph within the watch family. Despite its uncommon role, the watch remains a dyed-in-the-wool Portugieser. With its clearly structured dial and classic railway- track-style chapter ring, simple Arabic numerals, and slender feuille hands, the latest model references central, style-defining elements taken from the original Portugieser unveiled in 1939.
