A temple of Liberty

A temple of Liberty

Bologna, one of the preferred destinations for luxury shopping, is also a remarkable architectural gem.

[su_highlight background="#042653" color="#ffffff"]RETAIL[/su_highlight] Jewellers Natale Fontana Gioielli, in very central Via Rizzoli, is a unique example of Art Nouveau. It preserves the hallmarks of the Liberty school, which views architect Paolo Sironi as one of the most distinguished representatives. Entering the jewelry store - run by the Sinigaglia family for at least three generations - is like stepping back in time to 1913, when the interior was modelled in a characteristic style, protected by the board for artistic assets (Soprintendenza per i Beni Artistici), as the city's priceless heritage.  The wrought-iron chandelier, the white wood boiserie carved in low relief, the splendid showcase made entirely by hand by a Belgian glassmaker in the early 1900s are all unmistakable signs of elegance steeped in history. Perfect for accommodating  the maisons of luxury Made in Italy, from Pomellato to Chantecler, from Pasquale Bruni to Crivelli • MG
