In the Name of the Brother

In the new Jewellery Gallery at London’s V&A Museum, 49 fabulous vanity cases of Kashmira Bulsara, Freddie Mercury’s sister

Tuesday, 25 June 2019, by Lorenza Scalisi

After three months of renovations, the Jewellery Gallery at London’s V&A Museum re-opened on 11th April with a collection enriched with 80 extraordinary pieces. Queen Victoria’s diamond and sapphire crown is accompanied by 49 vanity cases lent and donated by Kashmira Bulsara, Freddie Mercury’s sister. A tribute in memory of the lead singer of Queen, the items have proved to be a unique ensemble bearing the signatures of some of the biggest names in Haute Joaillerie. Lacloche, Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier, as in the case of this gorgeous Vanity and Key Holder in Art Déco style (3x8 inches), dated 1920s, belonged to Consuelo Vanderbilt Earl.
