Speedmaster Moonwatch: A Piece Of Moon

Fifty years after Apollo 11’s moon-landing, the iconic Calibre 321 watch by Omega is back

Tuesday, 30 July 2019, by VO+ Magazine

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon-landing, Omega has presented the return of the new, Calibre 321 Speedmaster Moonwatch, the same movement used in the Speedmaster ST 105.003, tested and approved by NASA and worn by astronaut, Ed White, during the first American space-walk; and in the Speedmaster ST 105.012, the first watch worn on the moon on 21st July 1969. The timepiece is equipped with a 42mm polished, satin-finished case in a special platinum and gold alloy accompanied by a black leather strap with platinum clasp. The “step” dial is in deep black onyx and goes perfectly well with the other materials, including the 18-carat, white gold indicators and hands. As a tribute to the history of the Speedmaster, Omega has decided to use real lunar meteorite shards, thus creating a link with the Calibro 321, which powered every Speedmaster worn on the moon.
