The Utopian Concept: The Ideal Worlds of Jewelry Captured by AI
Five maisons and their vision of perfection. The photo project in the new April 2025 issue of VO+ is a journey into unconditional beauty. Jewelry and digital art meet in a utopian universe

We all have our own idea of a perfect utopian world, a habitat with more or less concrete references that becomes a comfort zone in which to lose ourselves and let go. Throughout history and cultures, the dream and representation of a world of beauty and perfection is something mankind has always craved. It now finds a new dimension thanks to AI, that Artificial Intelligence that currently pervades and contaminates everything. We therefore asked a few jewelry brands - Giorgio Visconti, Crivelli, Mattioli, Verdi, Casato - what their utopian vision of perfection is, what words circumscribe it and what jewelry best shapes it, and then had everything reworked in two steps: first by a digital artist, Gabriele Moschin, a lecturer at international academies and universities with a particular focus on the connections between AI, art, fashion and philosophy, and then by photographer Alberto Carlo Macchi and set designer Valentina Micól Carnevali, who, inspired by each of the digital works, recreated an equally utopian set up for a jewel of the maison. The result? Hyper-realistic or fantastical microcosms with powerful aesthetics that stimulate the imagination and land in an elsewhere yet to be discovered.
GIORGIO VISCONTI
Giorgio Visconti's utopian universe is based on the dualism between matter and spirit. A universe that reveals itself in the instant that the light of gold, diamonds and precious gems meets the eye of the beholder. Transient yet eternal, this vision combines beauty, ethics and sustainability, not to replace reality, but to reveal its most hidden potential. Embracing complexity - in theory as in artisan workmanship - means igniting glimmers of perfection in the heart of the imperfect.
CRIVELLI
The utopia envisioned by Crivelli is a world where value is given to the beauty of imperfection and the uniqueness of each creation. Where love and kindness are the driving force, and where culture, education and collaboration are the founding values of an inclusive and fair society. And where Nature, bathed in the soft golden light of dawn or the warm amber hues of sunset, takes center stage, with trees, flowers and leaves whose textures stimulate inspiration and stories to tell. Even better when wearing a piece of jewelry that becomes a companion for life and travel.
MATTIOLI
Turin, fuchsia, gold, curves, geometry, interchangeability and art, specifically Calder's. The key words that Mattioli uses to describe its own perfect world are an abundantly heterogeneous assortment. Words that led to the creation of an unlikely industrial building that seems to defy gravity and play with allusions to the lines drawn by a famous architect, with vivid and decisive hues. Shades that are already an absolute signature of the Turin-based company’s jewelry.
VERDI
The difference lies in the details. An old, even slightly abused saying, but in Verdi’s opinion, a true reason for being: in a utopian world, details must be given the importance they deserve, in exactly the same way as when creating a piece of jewelry, first with the design and then with the precious raw materials where the craftsman's hand and sensitivity gradually shape its soul. And here is where light, warmth, nature and geometry merge into one, as in the architecture created by AI, letting inner and outer beauty dialogue through ideal windows in one fascinating timeless “still image.”
CASATO
Art and freedom of expression are the foundations of Casato's utopian world, a limitless ideal dimension in which substance has no weight, yet is free and powerful. White is the absolute color, pure light that accommodates the dynamism of fluid and changeable materials. The shapes, while not letting themselves be captured, touch on perfection and then dissolve into something greater: a jewel that upends the laws of gravity and breaks down the frontiers of time and space.
