At the event entitled “Inside Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting: The Method Behind The Jewellery Trendbook”, held on Saturday 5 September in the Educational Hub, Paola De Luca, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Trendvision Jewellery + Forecasting, took the audience on a tour of her “research room”. For the first time, she revealed the process by which fragmented information, gathered through careful observation of various aspects of society, is transformed into structured knowledge, then into forecast scenarios and, finally, into strategic tools for the jewelry sector. The new Jewellery Trendbook 2028+ was used as a case study: the tangible result of an in-depth study. The starting point is what the Trendvision team calls the “information paradox.” In this age of information overload, social media constantly amplifies conversations and markets change rapidly. It is becoming increasingly difficult to determine which information is truly relevant and, above all, how long it will remain so. Forecasting stems from a broad and disciplined observation process that draws on many sources: international collaborators and local observers, industry and market intelligence, and an understanding of consumer behavior. A global perspective helps to grasp the scope of these changes; a local perspective brings rituals, aesthetics and nuances to light that large datasets do not always capture. There is also no shortage of direct engagement with companies, designers, manufacturers, retailers, trade shows, universities and cultural institutions. Reports, archives, publications, economic data, digital images are analyzed and the field attentively observed. Artificial intelligence is used to identify patterns and verify connections, but it does not replace cultural sensitivity, authorship or human judgment. The next step is to distinguish a weak signal from a strong one, an emerging phenomenon from a macrotrend or an already established trend. Three questions guide this analysis: how frequently the phenomenon or trend occurs; whether it taps into deeper needs, desires or tensions; and what concrete impact it may have on the jewelry industry, consumers and markets. The analysis simultaneously considers geopolitics, the economy, new geographies and migration, technology, materials, sustainability, culture, creativity, luxury values, consumer behavior and industry transformations. This is what provides the power to transform knowledge into strategic choices and strategic choices into new value for the product, the brand and the market.
