The book “Jewelry in Florence, Fratelli Peruzzi Archive (1880-1970)”, published by Sillabe in Livorno, will be previewed on 30th March in the Cattedrale dellImmagine in Piazza Santo Stefano al Ponte, Florence. Written by jewelry historian Bianca Cappello, it is an in-depth critical text that offers the general public and experts an engaging read about one more brick in the reconstruction of the fascinating history of Florentine goldsmithing in the Italian and international context of the modern and contemporary age.

Almost a century of goldsmith production, described by the author in 237 pages through the important Fratelli Peruzzi jewelry and silverware archives of drawings, photos and jewelry samples.

Founded in Florence in 1880 and still open on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, the Peruzzi jewelry store has settled perfectly into the historical, political and customary context during its long activity between Italy and America. The Italian/English book, with more than 300 color photos (preface by Luigi Salvadori, introduction by Dora Liscia Bemporad), was published thanks to the Associazione Osservatorio dei Mestieri d'Arte (Art Professions Observatory Association) and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and Intesa Sanpaolo banks, through which it was possible to access funds from the Bando Rinascimento program.

«There are stories that cannot be kept in the attic,» said Laura Giannoni Peruzzi. «That's why I wanted all the documentary material of Fratelli Peruzzi's activity to be studied and appreciated. By taking it out of its coffer, it can be preserved forever in everyone's memory.»

«Being able to study this remarkable archive of Florentine jewelry and silverware drawings, photos and models was an honor,» says jewelry historian Bianca Cappello. «Writing about it has not only meant bringing to light the history of the Peruzzi family through careful documentary research, but also being able to explain something more about the history of ‘Italian-style’ jewelry (as it was called in the 19th century), which featured distinctive original elements that were different to the fashionable jewelry of Paris or London.»
