Italian touch, Brazilian groove
A rising star in the international panorama of design jewellery, Thais Bernardes, born in Minas Gerais and based in Milan, creates a unique combination between Italian craftsmanship and a joyful Brazilian style.
When designing your jewelry, what do you draw inspiration from? Are you more influenced by your inner self – your hopes, dreams, feelings and emotions - or by the exterior world (from nature to architecture)? And what is the role your Brazilian heritage plays in your jewelry?
When i design i look for inspiration in my home country, Brazil. It's nature, people , colors , culture..and i try to pass to the italian craftsmen those feelings, those experiences. It's important for me the meaning of the forms, and colors and i want everyone to be part of it.
In your opinion, what makes a jewel really precious and exclusive? Is it the material, the design, the symbolic meanings it carries?
In my opinion what makes a jewelry precious is a mix of factors, of course when you touch it you must feel the preciousness of materials, the design is the expression of an idea which carries a meaning, making the jewelry unique for the woman which wears it.
When you create your jewelry, do you have a clear vision of who will buy it in a store? What does the Thais Bernardes woman look like?
I create jewelry for women which wants to express their uniqueness, their passion, their independence, beauty and class through unique pieces.
Is there a famous person - an actor/actress, an artist, even an athlete - that you consider a true icon of style and elegance and would like to see wear your jewels?
This year we have Olympic games in Brazil, therefore i would like to point out an athlete as an icon, Federica Pellegrini. Cause she is a symbol of strength and will, but still feminine and joyful.

Is there a main theme, a "fil rouge" that goes through all of your collections? Or is every new collection completely different from the one before?
My collections changes, they are the expression of my vision at the moment, and the reflection of me as a woman changing and growing day by day.
Do you have a piece, or a whole collection, that you consider your favorite and/or your most successful one?
I started my journey in the jewelry world with the dreamcatchers in gold with fringes, fringes which are the way you can recognize my brand, every necklace, bracelet will have the ' veneziane ' fringes. The most beautiful legend of dreamcatchers which attracted and inspired me is the spiritual essence of nature, the 'web of life', teaching that everything is interconnected. It encourages us to pay more attention to our dreams, in nature, in our lives. And i just made them Gold.

Are you already working on new collections? Can you tell us about it?
Everyday i am hungry to do new things, express my feelings, create jewelry to embrace beauty and make women feel free, strong and feminine. I will be in my home country for vacation and i will start working on my new collection, getting the energy from the mountains and colors of Minas Gerais.
