The Body Language Collection by Anissa Kermiche: a hymn to the power of women

The Body Language Collection by Anissa Kermiche: a hymn to the power of women

On March 8, VO+ presents you with a jewelry collection made by a woman to celebrate and inspire the “other half of heaven”.
On Wednesday, the world celebrates  International Women’s Day, and the jewellery world makes no exception. To highlight the importance on women’s empowerment and the intrinsic magic of femininity, nothing is better than wearing a jewel from the Body Language collection by Anissa Kermiche.

Body Language celebrates the female form and is a reflection of the generation of successful, powerful and funny women that Anissa sees all around her. The collection features the iconic Rubies Boobies, La Derriere and Precieux Pubis necklaces and the playful Yes We Can singular earrings amongst other pieces crafted from different golds, silver and precious stones.

Anissa Kermiche is blooming in the fine jewellery sphere with her eponymous line of designs – from modern-day pearls, suited as much for dive bars as debutante balls, to beautifully-sculpted earring shapes.

It took one distinguished design – the Paniers Dorés earrings, influenced by a dinner table strewn with leftover fortune cookies – to catch the attention of the intellectual style set. What has taken hold is somewhat akin to a cult following led by Leandra Medine of Man Repeller, celebrated style writer Pandora Sykes and early supporter Camille Charrière. Decorating the ears of a growing number of daring, provocative and established women, and featuring in fashion bibles Vogue, InStyle, Sunday Times Style and Telegraph Luxury, the Parisian-born designer’s star is on the rise.

A severe and academic childhood led Anissa to take up studies in engineering and computer science, but after three years, Anissa was struck with an ennui that led her ever-present edgy temperament to adopt a different approach; she threw herself hands-first into jewellery studies at Central Saint Martins and in London’s revered jewellery district, Hatton Garden. This daring move culminated in a remarkable launch in 2016, in what has been a tourbillon of a year. Anissa’s abiding ambition is to create jewellery that reflects the generation of successful, powerful and funny women that she sees all around her. It’s this aspiration and academic drive that has led to designs which have caught the eye of buyers at leading retailers across the globe.

Anissa’s broad yet considered range of pieces laud the strong and inspired woman, yet retain an innate sense of femininity thanks to her use of raw lines, curves and circles. Representing the duality of her personality, there’s poetry in the geometry, sensuality in the construction, and style in her confrontational approach to empowerment. From her London-based studio, Anissa has sourced the finest stones and used both her technical and creative skills to consistently challenge convention.

Constantly hunting for unique touchpoints for her imagination, Anissa turns shapes from daily life into what she defines as wearable art —lamps become earrings, paintings translate into textures and sculpture informs the lines of neckpieces. Building on her fixation with fine art, her collections often reference artists including Francois Morellet, Alexander Calder and Constantin Brancusi. An outspoken and contemporary collection to wear with confidence.
