Designers of tomorrow
Face to face with Professor Alba Cappellieri, Director of post-graduate courses in Jewellery Design at Politecnico di Milano.

intcappellieriWhat do your training courses in jewellery consist of ?

The courses in Jewellery Design at Politecnico di Milano express the deep bond between training and the professional world of the jewellery sector. Contrary to most training programmes, we create designers who are ready and able to collaborate with the productive world. This approach is dictated by the desire to prepare our students for employment in the numerous jewellery companies. We offer a very broad training programme: from a specialization course in jewellery design open also to those without an undergraduate degree, to undergraduate and master degree programmes, and an international masters degree course in Accessory Design. Each path is customizable according to the background and needs of individual students.

What skill sets do your courses provide?

We create competency in both the product and the process as a jewel is not only a product but is related to processes: creative, production and communication. Studying design with us means taking a 360-degree approach to jewellery: our students can work as creative executives in a company as well as specialists in retail, communications, in trade fairs and so on.

Do your graduates more often find work in Italy or abroad?

Now in our eleventh academic cycle, we have an important case study: it is my pride to see my students working for leading Italian companies of jewellery and also international firms. It is further evidence that Italy is still the leader in the jewellery world. We still have stories to tell.

C.F.
