A Journey Around the World with Silvia Furmanovich
Silvia Furmanovich inaugurates her exhibition Around the World in New York, hosted by Bergdorf Goodman through August 2025: an invitation to view the world with curiosity and consciousness
On the evening of May 7th, Silvia Furmanovich celebrated the opening of Around the World in New York, an exhibition that marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of her career. A milestone occasion, it is commemorated through one hundred creations that retrace the breadth and richness of her creative journey. The Brazilian designer is renowned for forging a sensitive dialogue with artisans from across the globe, crafting a personal and immediately recognizable lexicon. Her pieces are unmistakable, alchemically fusing precious and “humble” materials through the skilled hands of craftspeople, guardians of ancient, often forgotten techniques. Unmistakable for their contemporary refinement but also for the way they preserve rare knowledge, support small communities, and create a delicate, yet powerful, balance between noble and unconventional materials such as wood, bamboo, and even horsehair. It is within this synthesis of luxury and simplicity that the uniqueness of her work resides, along with a deeper message: humility is the noblest of virtues. A tireless traveler, Furmanovich has turned each of her destinations into an opportunity for encounter, discovery, and collaboration. Around the World gathers her most meaningful experiences, offering them to the public as an emotional journey across continents. From Brazil, with botanical jewelry in marquetry that captures the generous abundance of tropical flora, to India, with marble and carved stones evoking the grandeur of Mughal architecture. From Japan, through the poetic rigor of woven bamboo and lacquer, to Uzbekistan, where Suzani and Ikat motifs become precious patterns celebrating Central Asia’s textile traditions. In the United States, turquoise and beads reinterpret the techniques of Native Southwestern communities, while in Egypt, scarabs and archaic symbols reappear in rings and pendants that preserve the enduring allure of Pharaonic civilization. Finally, in Italy, micromosaics and coral pay homage to the refined legacy of Mediterranean jewelry. A precious exploration, the exhibition stands as a testament to the high ideal of one who has shaped her craft in the name of art and human connection.
