Tefaf New York Fall 2017: Old is New Again

Tefaf New York Fall comes back to the historic Park Avenue Armory in New York City for its second edion and jewelry will be as always one of its big players

Sculptural qualities and elaborate constructions enhanced by precious materials and stones, and artisanal methods: jewellery is an art matter, which fascinates us for its timeless beauty and preciousness. Think about names like Otto Jakob, Hemmerle, Reza, Wallace Chain, Van Cleef & Arpels: these jewellery brands create one-of-a-kind art related pieces which are not only a personal adornment but timeless objects to admire. That’s why the presence of some jewellery houses is essential in the most important art fairs, which aim to give the quintessential art experience to their guests. Starting today, Saturday, October 28 through Wednesday, November 1, in New York, Tefaf New York Fall is one of the best examples! Here the works of jewellery and watch specialists - from contemporary makers to galleries that specialise in antiques- merge with a wide variety of collecting areas: furniture, decorative arts, ceramics, glass, silver, textiles, tapestries, antiquities, paintings, sculptures, books, manuscripts, arms and armour, and Asian art.

«We are delighted to return to e Park Avenue Armory to build on the successful debuts of Tefaf New York Fall (October 2016) and Tefaf New York Spring (May 2017),» said Patrick van Maris, CEO of Tefaf. He continues, «We have been overwhelmed by the response Tefaf New York has received so far. Many collectors and museum representatives have called it a “gamechanger” and a welcome addition to the international art calendar. The United States is the largest art market in the world, and we are looking forward to cementing our presence in New York while continuing to showcase the very best the art world has to offer.»

The event promises to be something to look forward to, and an unsurpassed experience where to discover not only decorative or historical pieces but pieces which convey a message or meaning. The power of jewelry will be also the theme of a cultural meeting, which will take at Tefaf on Tuesday, October 31, named ‘Surface or substance? Jewellery as adornment or power?’, when specialists in the field will discuss about jewellery’s deeper meanings: from symbols of political power and spiritual significance, to souvenirs of friendship and love – or even agents of provocation.
