The Precious Universe by Van Cleef & Arpels

“Sous les étoiles, un sogno celeste,” the new high jewelry collection proposed by the Maison, is a poetic immersion in the mysteries of the universe

From popular astronomy to 20th century science fiction ... Van Cleef & Arpels embraces the mysteries of the universe to propose a new high jewelry collection. Ten years after “Les Voyages Extraordinaires” a series of jewels inspired by Jules Verne's novel “From the Earth to the Moon” (1865), the Maison continues its odyssey in space and time to discover celestial phenomena. With “Sous les étoiles, a celestial dream”, Van Cleef & Arpels takes us on a poetic and dreamlike journey made of galaxies, nebulae and precious constellations. «The Maison has always been interested in the moment in which the observation of nature meets poetry and the imagination,» explains Nicolas Bos, President of the Maison. «With this new collection, we wanted to continue the adventure that began with Jules Verne, exploring the literary and scientific tradition of which his work belongs. We thus met the Greek philosopher Luciano of Samosata, among the first to imagine a journey into space, Giovanni Kepler and his evocative story "The dream or lunar astronomy", written at the beginning of the 17th century, or even Camille Flammarion, who in 1880 published, in a magnificently illustrated edition, Popular Astronomy».

150 creations offer an aesthetic permeated with dreams through dynamic lines and sensational colors. Designed first in gouache, they come to life thanks to the rich chromatic range inspired by the treasures of nature. The deep blue of the sapphires - enhanced by the variety of cuts - is combined with the pyrite-speckled brightness of the lapis lazuli or with the intense green of the emeralds. Chalcedony and tanzanite are combined in the “Céphéide” set; coral, pink and mauve sapphires dot the “Arche solaire” bracelet, while white and yellow diamonds shine in unison on the “Halley” necklace.
