Shakespeare at Selfridges

Shakespeare at Selfridges

One of the most important poets reinterpreted by fashion

To mark the 400th anniversary year of Shakespeare’s death, the British department store Selfridges launched its own in-store theatre - The reFASHIONed Theatre: a special project which involves the creativity of the best fashion designers. Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, Maison Margiela, Craig Green, Rick Owens, Simone Rocha, among others, have offered a mixture of archive, one-off and couture pieces capturing the spirit of Shakespeare’s work, to dress the store’s Oxford Street windows. The second phase, or Act II, is presenting a tale of mystery and intrigue. Cue one-of-a-kind designs and breathtaking, original showpieces inspired by William Shakespeare’s most memorable quotes and iconic plays.
