Another edition of Couture Las Vegas, the international event that ended with the Couture Design Awards, has come to a close. Numerous Made in Italy brands among the finalists and on the podium
Las Vegas, Encore Theater. The Couture Design Awards ceremony, which normally closes the four-day event, took place on Saturday 4th June. This edition stood out for the fact that the finalists and winners included many exhibitors making their debut at the Vegas show with a predominance of brands of European origin, particularly from France and Italy. One example was Alix Dumas, a Parisian designer making her first appearance in Vegas, who won the award for the Best in Haute Couture.
A quick round up of the Italian companies competing in the various categories of the Couture Design Awards saw Bea Bongiasca come second in Best in Bridal, Busatti 1947 and Mattioli come second and third respectively in Best in Diamonds Above $40,000, Vendorafa as the runner up for the Best in People's Choice, as was Gismondi 1754 for the Best in Editor's Choice. It is worth noting the extraordinary exploit of Peruffo, which was listed as a finalist in no less than four categories, emerging as the winner of two, Best in People's Choice and Best in Debuting, while coming third in Best in Editor's Choice and Best in Innovative.
Taking a wider look at the other highlights of the awards, Tara Maria Famiglietti, founder of Ondyn Fine Jewellery, brought the Best in Diamonds Under $40,000 category back with her to New York. Upon receiving the award, Tara thanked her family for their support, words that were also expressed by Kim Cosella, founder of Sorellina with her sister Kim. Together they received the Best Platinum award from Couture director Gannon Brosseau.
John Green of Lux Bond and Green, who won this year's Cindy Edelstein Award, spoke about the importance of teamwork and the condition common to many companies in the jewelry world of being born and growing within a family unit. Visibly moved by the important recognition, John said: «I am very lucky, I represent the fourth generation, and this year our company will be 125 years old. My son Charlie is here with me and he is already taking his first steps in this very special community in the jewelry world.»
