Jewellery, Gem & Technology Dubai opened yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Center

The first physically-attended international B2B event of 2022 for the jewelry industry launches the sector towards a new development phase

Jewellery, Gem & Technology Dubai (JGT Dubai) opened its doors yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), inaugurating the 2022 agenda of jewelry industry events with the return of business in physical presence, much to the enthusiasm of the international operators in attendance. Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Government’s Media Office was at the inauguration.
Open until Thursday 24th, the three-day, B2B event at JGT Dubai is the result of collaboration between Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) and Informa Markets Jewellery, with the support of DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre) and Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG), the event's official and industry partners respectively. “The industry’s business is back in full swing and JGT Dubai offers buyers the chance to meet with companies and suppliers face-to-face in an immersive environment that is as safe as it is productive," commented David Bondi, Senior Vice President of Informa Markets Asia. "Together with our partner, Italian Exhibition Group, we invite visitors to make the most of this event to discover new products, strike new deals and find enormous inspiration and energy." Bondi went on to praise the Government of Dubai, the DMCC and the DGJG for their trust and warm welcome, which embraces "not only our event but the entire future of the jewelry industry." “JGT Dubai has generated a lot of interest in the international gold and jewelry community since its announcement. And today we are proud to see the show open its doors to the industry's global players," said Corrado Peraboni, CEO of Italian Exhibition Group. "This mutual feeling of great satisfaction proves the validity of the efforts made alongside Informa Markets Jewellery, aided by the invaluable support of the Dubai Government, the DMCC and the DGJG, to offer the sector a new and important opportunity to strengthen and develop its business on strategic markets.”

The event raises the curtain on products that aim to conquer the scene in 2022 and beyond. With more than 300 exhibitors from 23 countries, JGT Dubai welcomes visitors to seven national halls with companies from Italy, Belgium, Colombia, India, Israel, Spain and Turkey. Exhibitors from other geographic areas of reference for the sector will also be present at the show, offering a range of fine jewelry products and finished items, loose diamonds and colored stones, technological solutions and equipment.
Visitors are expected to arrive from over 100 countries with buyer delegations from the United Arab Emirates, Russia, India, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Armenia and Brazil. The show will also host over 200 wholesalers, retailers and brands from over 30 countries from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America and South Asia.

An absolute global event
Dubai is the ideal setting for the event, a meeting point for the world's leading jewelry players. A major gateway to emerging markets and a hub for gold and diamond trading, it is also a spectacular location with a skyline that captures the world's attention. “Dubai, the so-called 'City of Gold', deserves this world-class tradeshow event, made possible by the synergy between the international organizers and the local trade institutions. We are excited to witness the debut of JGT Dubai, an event that aims to become an absolute landmark in the annual calendar for international players within the sector. The show has all the potential for creating crucial business opportunities for the industry in the coming years," said Tawhid Abdulla, President of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG). "ITA is extremely pleased to support this 1st edition of JGT. In terms of value, jewelry is the main product exported from Italy to the UAE and we are the 3rd global supplier to this country. We invited professional buyers and retailers from the MEASA area to JGT Dubai. ITA has set up a lounge for b2b meetings inside the Italian hall and we will be launching, together with the Italian Embassy and Consulate General, a national communication campaign dedicated to sustainable jewelry. Italy is simply extraordinary: #be, IT," added Amedeo Scarpa, Director of the ITA office in the UAE.

A real re-start for the industry

For participants, JGT Dubai is a real chance to relaunch the sector and pave the way for a new phase of development and growth. “We are truly excited to bring Israeli diamond excellence to Dubai for the first time. Thanks to signing the Abraham Agreement, Dubai has become a highly important business partner for the Israeli Diamond Industry. I am sure that this will not be our only event in Dubai," commented Aviel Elia, Managing Director of the Israeli Diamond Institute (IDI), organizer of the Israel Diamond exhibition area hosting 12 companies. Colin Sharh, President of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), underlined the importance of the United Arab Emirates as one of the largest export markets for India. 14% of India's total jewelry and gemstone exports go to the UAE market for an overall value of $4.65 billion. Dubai is a strategic crossroads for markets such as the Gulf, Russia, Eastern Europe, North and East Africa, India, Central Asia, South and East Asia. JGT Dubai will be a strategic opportunity for Indian manufacturing, not only to develop business and find customers, but also to test out the world market," said Shah, whose organization aims to protect the interests of the leading jewelry and gemstone companies exhibiting in the India area. For Colombia's ACODES, an association of emerald exporters in the region, JGT Dubai offers South American countries vast and exclusive opportunities to meet decision makers of the highest level and with considerable purchasing power.
“The Colombian emerald industry welcomes everyone with great enthusiasm to Dubai for a sector event that could become the new Mecca for emeralds thanks to the work of Informa Markets Jewellery, IEG, DMCC and DGJG," said Guillermo Galvis, president of ACODES. The Colombia exhibition area is hosting ten exhibitors, leaders in the supply of emeralds.

Discover new opportunities
Foreign buyers are expected to explore the industry’s offerings at JGT Dubai. "I just couldn’t wait for this show, held in fantastic Dubai," says Florecia Boskis of Floboskis Stad, Argentina. "The exhibitors' showcases are fantastic," she added. Mauricio Okubo from Brazil's Julio Okubo Joias is expecting to find his next  bestsellers at the show.
“After a long and difficult period, I am looking forward to meeting those suppliers and trends that can support the growth of my business. The aim is to build new partnerships, install contacts with the most prestigious brands, meet the most important entrepreneurs in the industry and find new collections," said Okubo.
The event also saw two world-class meetings held the day before yesterday: the Dubai Diamond Conference organized by DMCC, and the presentation ceremony of the Informa Markets Jewellery World Awards Dubai. Registration to the events is available online. Moreover, JGT Dubai is taking place in conjunction with the Middle East's most important cultural event ever: Expo 2020, which opened last October and will be ongoing until 31st March.
