Melanie Georgacopoulos: A Fresh Glow for Mother-of-Pearl
Intuition and a passion for experimentation drive the new Aligned collection, elevated by the unique iridescence of mother-of-pearl
The iridescence of mother-of-pearl is at its finest in the Aligned collection. A great deal of both creative and manual work, the desire to experiment, as well as intuition, are behind what turns out to be a surprising result. Melanie Georgacopoulos has cut fine strips of mother-of-pearl and joined them seamlessly to form flat, ribbon-like sections that can be combined to create unusual plays of light. The same aesthetic zeal can be seen on the sides of the jewelry: the back is curved as opposed to the flat front sections, the pearls are partially concealed, and the metal is hidden. In this way, the mother-of-pearl remains in the foreground.
