The Goals of Oroarezzo

A great international success. This is what the numbers of the 42nd edition of Oroarezzo 2023 reveal. An edition full of new entries, creativity and talks that took stock of the industry's mainstream themes

The courage to change has rewarded the evolution of Oroarezzo, which closed its 42nd edition with record numbers: 40% more visitors compared to 2022 from over 100 countries, + 400 buyers from 55 countries and 350 exhibitors. All following the new "Shaping Jewelry Ideas" formula, devised, like the entire event, by IEG Italian Exhibition Group. First and foremost, the most obvious change was the new exhibition layout with a clearer division of the merchandise so that areas of interest could be better identified, the business and purchasing experience could become highly effective and the story of jewelry could be told through the visitor route. Now more than ever, the focus of the event was Made in Italy production with the usual gold and silverware but including jewelry. In fact, Oroarezzo 2023 also saw the Valenza and Vicenza gold districts making their debut at the Tuscan event, thus marking a moment of re-launch for Italian gold manufacturing’s centrality on the international market.

Oroarezzo's talent competition, Première, now at its 32nd edition, took place as always at the same time. This year’s theme was Light and its interpretation in jewelry. The competition saw 56 creations from 56 different countries competing (the complete list can be found on oroarezzo.it/premiere), and 13 of these were awarded prizes by the jury chaired by Beppe Angiolini, Honorary President of the National Chamber of Fashion Buyers, as well as Oroarezzo Ambassador and Art Director. Here is the list of the various winners: Moraglione 1922, Quadrifoglio, F.A. Gioielli, Artlinea, Anima. Silver Light Group, Gobi Preziosi, Veneroso, Daniela Neri. Grazziella Braccialini, Giordini, Unoaerre Industries, Alunno & Co., with the addition of a special mention for D'Orica. The Talents Under 30 section then saw Marta d'Ambrosio, a student at Arezzo’s Istituto Tecnico Professionale Orafo (Goldsmith Technical Institute) triumph with her jewel entitled “Luce è vita” (Light is Life).

The jewelry industry’s current mainstream themes, namely sustainability and gender equality, were also give room at Oroarezzo 2023. On Monday 15th, for example, the events entitled “Certified ethical gold: solutions for purchasing sustainable raw materials” and “Eco-sustainability and quality of surface treatments and coatings for gold and jewelry” were held, while Federorafi brought the fundamental theme of the “Vienna Convention” onto the stage. As for gender equality, this topic was addressed by two leading and authoritative voices.

Iris Van Der Veken, executive director and general secretary of Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2023, emphasized how resilience to climate change, protection of biodiversity, also in the supply chain, respect for inclusiveness and human rights and the adoption of ESG objectives must be constantly monitored and shared. According to Italpreziosi President Ivana Ciabatti, «it has long been said in Italy that more women in key positions could make an important contribution to GDP growth. Not because they are better at their jobs than men, but because they have complementary characteristics to men in achieving the goals for a fairer, more sustainable world that is good for both the planet and for business.»
