The Nine New Rooms at Museo del Gioiello in Vicenza


There is the Art Room, that of Fashion, Design, Function, the one dedicated to the Future, to Icons and to the Symbol, ending with those of Magic and Beauty. These are the 9 new rooms of the Museo del Gioiello in Vicenza, which inaugurates not only the renovated exhibition spaces, but also an unprecedented collection of 310 unique and exclusive pieces. Priceless masterpieces, many of which belong to private collections that are generally not accessible to the public or to the sector operators, an original and unpublished story of the history of jewelry, between contemporaneity and suggestions of the past, in a pluralism of contents, epochs , geographies and origins. Nine rooms studied in detail by nine internationally renowned curators. Names of the world of design, of fashion, of ancient and contemporary art, of the academic scene, and, of course, of the jewel tout court. The museum itinerary develops in an exhibition that combines a permanent collection, renewed every two years, a rotation of temporary exhibitions aimed at offering always a new original attractive. The third edition opens December 14, 2018 and will be open until the end of 2020. It's the Flora High Jewelry by Bulgari, a kick off this creative tour. A jewel chosen by Professor Alba Cappellieri, Professor of Jewelery Design at the Milan Polytechnic, as well as the leading jeweler in Italy, as an emblem of the third edition. "I chose this extraordinary object because it is a tribute to Italian manufacture and beauty. Bulgari is inspired by the paintings of Sandro Botticelli, whose eternal grace reverberates in this precious and delicate floral bouquet and the splendid manufacture exalts the Italian artisan ability. "_

Here, in a quick overview, the sequence of the new rooms.

It is Pascale Lepeu - director of the Cartier collection for over 30 years - the selection of the SALA SIMBOLO that hosts extraordinary jewels able to tell the symbolic power of the ornaments. Symbol of power, wealth, religion, royalty, manufacturing: the hall offers a heterogeneous vision of the jewel and its many roles over time.I

Cristina Boschetti - archaeologist, expert in artistic productions of the Hellenistic and Roman Mediterranean - is entrusted with the SALA MAGIA: amulets and protective talismans, propitiatory jewelry to ward off evil influences. Heterogeneous objects that use materials that are profoundly different from each other, indifferently poor or precious, alluding to superior forces and timeless values. Crossing the hall offers a strong and suggestive experience.

For the FUNCTION ROOM Massimo Vidale - professor of Archeology at the University of Padua - has chosen to focus on the communication function of the jewel. They are seals, jewels of the warriors of different cultures, up to the rings and pendants used by the rappers, elements that help to build and communicate the identity of the wearer.

The interpretation of the SALA BELLEZZA is by Patrizia di Carrobio - a diamond expert in New York -. For her, jewels transfer beauty to those who admire them. The theme is the game, in a fascinating mix of values, where high jewelry mixes with fashion jewelry.

Marie-José van den Hout, - famous Dutch gallery owner, founder of Marzee, the largest independent gallery in the world - is entrusted with the SALA ARTE. The theme is gold and the story unfolds through the processes of experimentation of international artists, who have not been afraid to bring creativity and experimentation to the limit, obtaining surprising results.

In SALA MODA, curated by Chichi Meroni, creative soul of the Arabesque Cult Store in Milan - an important wunderkammer of costume jewelry, fashion and mid-century design - the visitor is accompanied on a journey in which, being transported by the jewels created for the fashion between the 20s and 80s, will touch nine islands in the history of "bijoux de couture" and its link with the seven major arts and that in this room they see finally welcomed also fashion and design.

The SALA DESIGN is curated by Alba Cappellieri herself. The selection is dedicated to "designers without design" to those designers, that is, who have not explored other products that were not the jewel. It is a reflection that brings back the goldsmith designers, who are at the same time also craftsmen and authors, in the bed of design that has ignored them for too long and shows us the permeability and transversality of the jewel design.

The selection is dedicated to "designers without design" to those designers, that is, who have not explored other products that were not the jewel. It is a reflection that brings back the goldsmith designers, who are at the same time also craftsmen and authors, in the bed of design that has ignored them for too long and shows us the permeability and transversality of the jewel design.

The SALA ICONE is curated by Gabriele and Emanuele Pennisi, important antique jewelers from Milan, specialized in antique jewelery. It is a selection dedicated to Europe, home to masterpieces from the past between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries, icons of their time: from the extraordinary 800 frames to the admirable manufacture of enamel jewelery, to the seals and portraits of famous people.

The last room, that of the FUTURE, is curated by Olga Noronha, international fashion designer. His views on the jewel of the future include different and multidisciplinary perspectives. It is an anticipation of the future: from digital jewelry that modifies the body to invisible jewels that are grafted under the skin, from therapeutic jewels to home made jewels that can self-produce.
