Vicenzaoro Highlights, September 2024: Destination Made in Italy
Made in Italy jewelry, after having landed at the Venice Lido and at the Venice Film Festival, triumphs at Vicenzaoro where, thanks to continuously growing exports of 30% compared to 2019, an edition with great expectations has begun
Less than an hour away from Vicenza, another event with a decidedly glamorous flavor is taking place: the 81st International Film Festival at the Venice Biennale, an edition that will also be remembered for the debut of a new out-of-competition award, the Gina Lollobrigida Prize, aimed at talents in the fields of art, photography, painting, sculpture, fashion, design and, of course, cinema. Well, there, on that stage, next to Chiara Sbarigia, President of Cinecittà, an important representation of our beloved jewelry world was also present in the person of Claudia Piaserico, President of Confindustria Federorafi. She was tasked with designing and creating the statuette inspired by the great diva who passed away in January 2023, now an icon of the union between the goldsmith tradition and cinema, the “seventhart”.
Piaserico recalled this moment during the Vicenzaoro Opening Ceremony held yesterday in the Palladio Theatre, which, as usual, saw a number of personalities from local and national institutions parading on stage, alongside the “host”, IEG President, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti. «Made in Italy is recognized in many sectors, but there is still a lot to be done for jewelry, which is not fully part of this, so to speak, universal concept,» said Piaserico. President Ermeti, on the other hand, mentioned the numbers of this edition that has already been defined as extraordinary - more than 1,200 exhibiting brands from 35 countries, 40% of which from abroad - and then touched on the main stages of a 70-year-old story. «The latest chapter in this story began in 2016, when there was the merger between Fiera di Vicenza and Rimini Fiera, thus sanctioning the birth of Italian Exhibition Group. From the very first editions organized by IEG, we realized that Vicenza was running the risk of losing the chance to develop, leaving the field open to international competition. Hence, the ambitious restyling project currently underway, which will revolutionize the experience of buyers and exhibiting companies. And for this reason, we have Matteo Farsura and Mario Vescovo to thank, “pillars” of the many pillars that will see the new exhibition center come into being in the coming months.» After greetings from Giacomo Possamai, Mayor of Vicenza, and Andrea Nardin, President of the Province of Vicenza, Fabrizio Lobasso, Central Director for Economic Internationalization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took the floor and focused on the term luxury, by default associated with Made in Italy. «Luxury derives from luxus, “abundance of beautiful things”, so it is fair to say that our companies delve into beauty, spreading a positive message that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports with strength and responsibility and numerous initiatives.» This topic was followed by a speech from Matteo Zoppas, President of ITA – Italian Trade Agency: «Italian exports are worth 625 billion this year, in line with 2023 despite registering a 1% drop that still corresponds to a 30% growth compared to 2019. Production abroad is also increasing by 10%, equal to 7 billion euros.» More than comforting data that, in the Veneto region, find one of the irreplaceable strongholds of Made in Italy, as reiterated by Roberto Marcato, Regional Councilor for Productive Activities: «Veneto boasts 1,121 active companies in the sector, 873 of which are artisans, and 51.4% of the total is in Vicenza, with 5,600 employees. And in terms of jewelry exports, this is equivalent to 2.6 billion a year, or +16% compared to 2023.» A “+” sign that finds fertile soil in Vicenzaoro.
