Vicenzaoro Highlights, September 2026: The New Narrative of Akoya Pearls Begins at Vicenzaoro

The JPEA’s participation at Vicenzaoro via this institutional stand represents far more than a standard national group exhibit. It marks a strategic, high-value step that transcends the product itself, aiming to share a new narrative for Akoya pearls, launched right here at Vicenzaoro, that places quality, sustainability, and culture at the forefront. Led by President George Kakuda, the Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association was founded to guarantee the quality of pearls destined for international markets; today, it serves as the key body safeguarding Japan’s entire pearl export supply chain. Its mission encompasses promoting quality, protecting consumer trust, supporting its members, and establishing shared standards to ensure transparency in international trade. To further this initiative, the association has also sponsored a publication on the future of the Akoya pearl, curated by Paola De Luca, which will be presented tomorrow at 10:30 am at the Educational Hub. The event will open with an introduction by President Kakuda, interviewed by Federica Frosini, Editor-in-Chief of VO+ Jewelry magazine. This will be followed by a presentation from Paola De Luca regarding the editorial project on the cultural evolution of Akoya pearls, and will conclude with a round-table discussion featuring jewelry designer Alessio Boschi and Alfonso Vitiello, of the historic D'Elia 1790 family and company. Thus, the participation at Vicenzaoro holds significance well beyond a mere exhibition presence; it aims to build an enduring dialogue with designers, manufacturers, and retailers, reaffirming the Akoya pearl’s role as a contemporary material capable of interpreting the new codes of luxury.
