Vicenzaoro Highlights, September 2025: The Long Journey of the Scavia Family
With Fulvio Maria Scavia, the historic Milanese brand founded in 1911 has broadened its overseas horizons and son Alessandro is currently leading the fourth generation
With a heritage spanning four generations since its inception in 1911, Scavia can be defined as a historic brand but one which, as its creations demonstrate, has managed to reinvent itself over the years, adapting to the times while maintaining its original DNA. Last Saturday, Fulvio Maria Scavia and son Alessandro attended Vicenzaoro for Assogemme's “Wise Forms” talk, sharing their experiences and interpretation of contemporary jewelry creativity.
«Our brand is now internationally recognized, but everything still starts in the family workshop on Corso 22 Marzo, just as it did when my great-grandfather started the company in 1911,» says Alessandro. «My grandmother took the reins after him followed by my father, each leaving a strong mark and setting a new course. My father was actually responsible for expanding our horizons abroad: we now have boutiques in Lugano, Tokyo, Bangkok, Dubai and Almaty in Kazakhstan, but our approach is always the same everywhere. The customers tell us their dreams and we make them come true.
In Japan, they love small, simple pieces, while in the Middle East, they prefer more eye-catching and colorful items. What unites them is the ability to give shape to very different styles, all created by the same hand, that of my father, who loves to illustrate his initial sketches on a large blackboard, where he can study the details, techniques and wearability together with his goldsmiths.
Although we do not have actual collections because our core business is tailor-made, we do have iconic pieces, such as the Sandra Dia earrings (Dia from Design International Award), designed for Elizabeth Taylor at the request of her last husband and then exhibited at the Moma in New York. They have been among the most requested since 1991 and, as proof of their timelessness, we have re-proposed them in a thousand variations.»
