A Blooming Thought: The New VO+ September Issue is Out
Rebellious jewelers, evolving auctions, the American glamour with a new look, and made in Italy that gives to Italian style a dual soul
This issue of VO+ is dedicated to those who accept the challenge of evolution, both in their way of creating and selling, of contemplating new partnerships and narratives that define codes and languages without losing sight of their roots. We therefore reflect on a recently coined expression that particularly regards Italian jewelry and which goes beyond the concept of simple manufacturing linked to the territory: we are talking about “Made of Italy”, a concept that means creativity, savoir-faire, cross-contamination, belonging to a set of values that celebrate Italianness beyond the place where a jewel is produced. Speaking of evolutions and transformations, we talk to Sotheby's auction house to understand where this new energy is being channeled and through which unique pieces no longer wait for the hammer and its auctioneer, but are instead proposed with the secularity of a fixed price, thus also redefining the relationship between designer and collector. We also take a look overseas towards that timeless American Glamor that resists and transforms to give a new face to the Hollywood myth, between retro references and a cosmopolitan style. Lastly, we explore the twenty-five-year story of Fabio Salini, who celebrates this anniversary with a book by historian Vivienne Becker, confirming the vision of a rebellious jeweler, a disruptor of rules and languages, who speaks of jewelry as if it were a work of art and suggests approaching the craft with the cerebral eye, never the retinal one.
