Club degli Orafi: Maria Cristina Squarcialupi is the New President

Closing figures for 2023, important goals and a new leader for Club degli Orafi. These were the topics discussed during the 2024 General Meeting held on Monday 22 April

According to the Club degli Orafi - Intesa Sanpaolo Report presented at the annual General Meeting, 2023 was an important year for the sector, protagonist of good dynamics and a 7.4% growth in turnover. Not to mention exports of over 10 billion - up 11% in value and 7.1% in quantity - with the USA (+7%) and Swiss (+20.7%) markets still in the lead.

Despite the successes, however, there was no lack of fear about several slowdowns in the international cycle, which had already emerged at the start of the new year. In fact, the survey focused on entrepreneurial sentiment, highlighting for the first time, the drop in orders - especially on the domestic market, as the main concern. Nevertheless, Made in Italy continues to make the difference, as does investment in Italian companies in order to be ready for market recovery and provide answers to an extremely competitive international context. The results of Intesa SanPaolo’s study on industrial districts were also presented showing the gold district of Valenza in first place in terms of performance and Arezzo at an overall 25th.

An important moment during the Assembly was the passing of the baton between outgoing President Giorgio Villa (8853 SpA) and newly elected President Maria Cristina Squarcialupi (Unoaerre Industries SpA) with Vice President Mauro di Roberto (Bulgari SpA).

«Three exciting years,» said Giorgio Villa, «in which Club degli Orafi strengthened its activities in terms of promoting goldsmithing excellence, developing new project ideas and providing opportunities for moments of encounter. We brought the jewelry world even closer to that of art, launched the observatory on digital marketing, devised a project in response to the need for field training for Italian companies, a study on new retail dynamics and implemented survey work on the sector thanks to increasingly close collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo. I leave a Club to my colleague, Maria Cristina Squarcialupi, that represents and is recognized as a privileged interlocutor on the national and international scene with the certainty that she will continue and strengthen the development process undertaken thus far.»

«I am honored by the trust placed in me by the Members of the Club and I would like to thank Giorgio Villa in particular for his extraordinary commitment,» commented Maria Cristina Squarcialupi at the end of the meeting. «I am determined to continue along the path that has been plotted and to work towards an ever-clearer recognition of the uniqueness of the Italian gold and jewelry sector.  I know I can count on the valuable contribution of all the Club's Members and a strong Board of Directors that represents all the sector’s souls.»

Completing the new presidential team are board members Candido Operti (Antica Orologeria Candido Operti), Antonio Songa (Songa Antonio SpA), Giorgio Villa (8853 SpA), past presidents Andrea Broggian, Luciano Mattioli and Augusto Ungarelli, and arbitrators Francesco Bonacci, Giancarlo De Paulis and Paolo Valentini.
