The “new” Singapore International Jewelry Expo by IEG Asia

The first edition of SIJE, the new jewelry show organized by IEG and ASIA/Cems, has come to a close. Below is the Singapore International Jewelry Expo report

Although this was the first edition to see Italian Exhibition Group, through its subsidiary IEG Asia, involved in the organization of a jewelry event in the Far East, in reality, SIJE 2023 was the 18th edition of the Singapore International Jewelry Expo, staged with the support of the event's founders, CEMS - Conference & Exhibition Management Services. With over 280 exhibiting brands among jewelry companies, manufacturers and exporters from 28 countries covering 8,000 square meters, the 2023 edition was the largest edition of the show that, with a B2B/B2C format, targets buyers and consumers mainly from Singapore and Indonesia - partner country - as well as the rest of South Asia. In addition to the 60 Made in Singapore companies, brands from Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and, to a lesser extent, Nepal, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the UAE and the USA were also present. A small representation from Italy was also in attendance at Marina Sands Bay consisting of nine companies, including Zydo, a veritable regular, participating for the 15th time. With a catchment area of 600 million people, Singapore is an authentic economic hub in the ASEAN area as well as a major development opportunity for gold, jewelry and watchmaking with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.64% forecast for luxury goods over the 2022-2027 five-year period*, supported by the entry of new jewelry brands and increased watch sales and accompanied by rapid urbanization and greater spending power. A target that can only be extremely interesting for Made in Italy jewelry exports: according to Confindustria Federorafi data, in 2022, Italy exported goods to the area worth 264.44 million euros, equal to 2.7% of the sector’s total export value, with increases of +46.5% compared to 2021 and +89.4% compared to pre-Covid 2019. Taken together, these markets stood in 9th place in the destination ranking. A decidedly positive trend also for the first quarter of 2023 which closed with 81 million euros exported, +38.3% compared to January-March 2022, and a 3.2% share of total sector exports for the period analyzed.

At the end of the show, several important new entries were announced for 2024. For example, the re-launch of the Singapore Jewelry Design Award, which in the past, saw 93 candidates from 16 countries. The theme announced by IEG Asia is “Sustainable Luxury, with CEMS, SJA and JDMIS – Jewelry Design & Management International School – all collaborating in next year’s edition. By the end of 2023, nominations will open in the different categories: “Fresh Facets” for students, “Jewelry Without Limits” and the unprecedented “Artificially Exquisite” dedicated to the use of AI in jewelry.
