The undisputed leader of a market segment that it does not define as “high jewelry”, Vhernier has somehow overturned the concept, replacing the value of a stone with that of form and building its brand success mainly thanks to its extremely strong link with art, design, study and attention to lines. We spoke with Isabella Traglio, Executive Board Member and Head of Design and R&D at Vhernier. «Vhernier originates from the pure, abstract and conceptual forms of modern sculpture which have led us to define our specific concept of beauty, namely the beauty of simplicity, which is the great Brancusian lesson, since it was Constantin Brancusi himself who defined simplicity as resolved complexity. To a certain extent, it is the promise we make to our customers with our jewelry. We want to show purity by resolving the complexities of construction - that is for us to handle in our design and craftsmanship work. Everything we create stems from this idea of beauty, which lives in every project, in everything we do, and goes far beyond jewelry. And this consistency has been crucial in building the brand. Customers have appreciated this approach of ours, rooted in art, since the opening of our first boutique in 2002. The first Vhernier jewelry prototypes were created in 1984 from the vision of an Italian sculptor, who made beautiful abstract, conceptual works. When he discovered them, Carlo Traglio, an aesthete, art collector and connoisseur, was struck by those first jewels and, with brother Maurizio, saw the potential of creating a brand. In 2002, after acquiring Vhernier, they decided to open their first store in Milan. What they had understood was the uniqueness of this approach to jewelry: the decision of starting from shape rather than gems because it is the shape that allows you to achieve that beauty of simplicity. And then the fact that the body is as much a protagonist as the jewelry: the creations adapt to the body, embrace it, dress it. A concept of body jewelry that is quite rare in the jewelry world. Both of these small “revolutions” - that of design as a starting point and that of the body – originate from coherent and radical research. The result is a collection of intuitive, almost organic, yet highly studied shapes. Each collection is a new chapter in the story of Vhernier which proceeds with great continuity. Collections such as Eclisse and Aladino, for example, and are extremely emblematic of the Vhernier style, up to the most recent evolutions of iconic Calla. Today, Vhernier is a house of creation that, true to its origins, sculpts innovative designer jewelry with pure Milanese elegance.»
