Vicenzaoro September 2021: Sustainability, Ongoing Strategies

How can we meet the challenge of achieving ever more sustainable development? This is the question to which a series of answers is going to be given during the didactic seminars and the streaming webinars entitled "Sustainable Development Goals: Meeting Their Challenge". Organized by CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, they will be hosted today, from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m, by Italian Exhibition Group in Hall 7 of the Main Stage at Vicenzaoro. The main purpose is to highlight the strategies of the sector, in order to enhance the implementation of two of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved by the UN General Assembly in 2015 and to be achieved by 2030. In the first session, moderated by Edward Johnson, CIBJO's JIV Moderator, the special guests Iris Van der Veken (RJC’s Executive Director), Feriel Zerouki (Senior VP Corporate Affairs, De Beers), Cristina Maria Villegas (Director of Mining, PACT), Diana Culillas (Secretary-General, Swiss Better Gold Association) will discuss a topic of great relevance: "SDG 5: Gender Equality. The Role and Influence of Women in the Mining of Precious Materials", that is, which is the role of women in the extraction of precious materials for the jewellery industry. In the second session, also moderated by Edward Johnson with Jonathan Kendall, CIBJO's Executive Vice President, the topics of discussion will be circular economy and reuse of materials, "SDG 12: Responsible Consumption Sustainable Jewellery in the Circular Economy", with Danielle Keller Aviram (Sustainable Jewellery and Fashion Consultant), Oren Schneider (CEO of CIRCA), Gabriel Andre Sauer (Managing Director, Sauer) and Philipp Reisert (Managing Partner, C. Hafner GmbH & Co. KG). Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, will be present at the debate, and in preview he underlined the importance of communication of these activities. «We lay the foundations to provide suitable tools to operate in the best way, so that we can support consumers and, therefore, increase consumer confidence».
