Master and Commander

A daring, adventurous yet incredibly precious luxury concept. For over 160 years, Eterna has been making  the best quality mechanical watches in the grand Swiss timekeeping tradition. Now, the brand is proud to present its new Super KonTiki Chronograph, the latest in a long line of legendary KonTiki timepieces that embody the thrill of adventure and the reliability of Eterna’s watchmaking expertise.
With the in-house 3916A flyback chronograph calibre, the new Super KonTiki Chronograph continues a journey that began almost 60 years ago, attracting decades of watch enthusiasts with its bold design and horological innovation.

Following a long line of KonTiki timepieces, the new Super KonTiki Chronograph remains genuine to the collection’s design codes while displaying a compelling and recognizable personality of its own. With its attractive concept, this new chronograph is a daring statement for today’s adventurer. Encased in a robust 45mm stainless steel case, the collection features a new and dynamic dial configuration, incorporating the collection’s iconic triangular indexes with two chronograph subdials that bring a technical touch to the design of the dial. A generous application of white SuperLumiNova makes the new Super KonTiki Chronograph highly readable throughout the day and night, adding to the functionality of this precision instrument. Another useful feature is the highly polished rotational bezel that not only offers a further method for tracking the passage of time, but reinforces the sporty nature of the timepiece.

The KonTiki collection is named after the famous ocean expedition helmed by Thor Heyerdahl, Norwegian ethnographer, botanist, and zoologist. Heyerdahl crossed the Pacific Ocean on a wooden raft to demonstrate that ancient civilisations could have made such a crossing centuries ago. His only modern equipment was a hand-cranked radio for weather reports and six Eterna timepieces for leading his crew across the open ocean. When news of their successful voyage reached Switzerland, Eterna decided to create a unique collection to remember Heyerdahl’s amazing voyage.  Called the KonTiki Series, it has been one of Eterna’s most favored collections since its launch, bringing elements of adventure, danger and excitement to  mechanical watchmaking.

What distinguishes the new Super KonTiki Chronograph from all other pieces in the KonTiki collection is the exclusive movement it gets: the famous flyback chronograph movement designed by the Eterna manufacture. Unlike a common chronograph, the flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset to zero and immediately started again at any given time during its operation. This handy complication seems simple, but is exceptionally difficult to accomplish and serves as a homage to the expertise of the movement manufacture at Eterna.

The Super KonTiki’s automatic flyback chronograph movement, the Calibre 3916A, is part of the well-known 39 family of Eterna movements. Beating at 28,800 vph, the movement has a remarkable 60-hour power reserve and is wonderfully finished with rhodium plating on the surface of the components, as well as a microblasting decoration on the oscillating weight.  Like all Eterna’s in-house movements, the Super KonTiki Chronograph boasts chronometer-level precision with seventy per cent of the parts being manufactured at Eterna’s Grenchen headquarters. The Super KonTiki Chronograph combines robust  styling, perfect precision and the highest possible

quality—all key points of the Eterna brand. Linked to the company’s exciting history, this new collection carries on the adventure today with two limited edition versions—one on a sporty rubber strap and another on a classy stainless steel Milanese bracelet.
