Dior transforms the decorative arts of France’s most famous royal chateau into exquisite jewels

 

It is one of the most opulent places: a true icon of luxury that tells to the world the French art of living. We are talking about The Château de Versailles, the renowned royal château located in the Île-de-France region, with a rich history inextricably linked with the figure of Louis XIV, Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution. It isn’t hard to understand why the iconic place is a Dior destination par excellence. And Versailles is also the starting point for one of the latest Maison’s high jewellery collections by Victoire de Castellane.

"I imagined Versailles by night, where the stones glistened in the candlelight." The artistic director of Dior Joaillerie says describing her inspiration. In playfully recasting these elements, she invites us to revisit Versailles, magnifying glass in hand, to better appreciate its graphic and ornamental aspects. On beholding the diamond drop necklace, one might recall a crystal tassel from a chandelier; further along, an earring evokes a curtain tieback in the royal apartments; elsewhere, a bow seems to have escaped from the detail work on typically rocaille, or Rococo-style, furniture…
