Kate Moss launches her first jewelry collaboration with Ara Vartanian

Kate Moss loves jewelry. Next week, she will launch her first limited-edition jewelry collection launches, in collaboration with Brazilian designer Ara Vartanian.

"I can’t walk past a jewelry shop without seeing something I love," Moss said and in 1997 told Vogue, "It’s my drug of choice." But we have never seen Kate’s design aesthetic in jewels, until now.

The pair first met in Sao Paolo years ago, when Kate visited Vartanian’s store to commission a Tanzanite ring, but it wasn’t until last year that the idea for the collection of 18-karat gold, diamond and Brazilian gemstone rings, pendants, earrings and buckles materialised.

The reason for the partnership is based almost entirely on aesthetic appreciation, “I was amazed at the quality of his craftsmanship and also the way that he makes extravagant jewelry with big diamonds and other gemstones, but makes it look so modern,” Moss explains to BAZAAR. For his part, Vartanian is a fan of Moss’ famed personal style, “Kate has unique taste for pieces that could be contemporary or could be old—for me to explore that with her was a great experience … There are no rules on how to wear jewelry. You wear what you feel like and she breaks boundaries and rules.”

"Kate wears jewellery in a very free way," says Vartanian to Vogue. "She just throws it on." This spirit is demonstrated in the campaign, shot by Fenton Bailey in the grounds of Moss's Cotswolds home, where the jewellery twinkles as happily on models Elfie Reigate and Anna Lee Gardner, as it does on the boys, Luka Isaac and Louis Baines.

"But these pieces aren’t about fashion," insists Vartanian. "The stones and attitude give them a powerful energy, they are forever." And what does Moss hope is in one of the small boxes she opens from the collection? "I love the moon rings, and the pendulum necklace."

Kate Moss x Ara Vartanian is priced from £700, and will be available from May 17th at HarveyNichols.com and Ara Vartanian, 44 Bruton Place, London W1J.
