Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels and Bulgari: the big names at Fuorisalone

Time until 22nd (or 30th) April to admire installations, works of art and ‘dream rooms’

The forerunner among the big names in haute joaillerie for Fuorisalone events was Tiffany & Co., which, at 4 pm, in its Boutique in Piazza Duomo, announced the debut of its Home & Accessories collection. A new idea that brings with it all the skills that have always distinguished the brand: quality materials, excellent craftsmanship and functional design, the latter being particularly important for a collection composed of ordinary items of daily use, created, however, in silver, porcelain or cut crystal. And so rulers, goniometers, straws, paint cans, first aid kits and paper cups become precious, taking on intrinsic value without ever losing their ‘practicality’. Indeed, they lead to the habit of being able to use beautiful, prestigious objects, often personalized with artisan details on request, every day without relegating them merely to special occasions. The idea retraces the steps of what Gene Moore, Tiffany's legendary window designer, had dared to do in the Seventies when he dressed the company's windows in an extremely unconventional fashion by placing paint cans in the foreground. Now, that same ‘working tool’ has become a crystal ice bucket with a silver border, while the Loring tea service, inspired by the pattern of the typical steel curbs on New York streets, brings to mind 1979 tableware by John Loring, Tiffany's Emeritus Design Director.

Make way for budding talent
From the partnership between two of France's top manufacturing institutions, Van Cleef & Arpels and Sèvres, comes the project on display until 30th April in the VC&A showroom in Via Montenapoleone no. 10. Under the spotlights, the works by the winners, respectively Samy Rio and Pernelle Poyet, of the 2015 and 2016 editions of the Festival Design Parade in the city of Noailles. The Festival has been sponsored by the glorious porcelain manufacture of Sévres for years, offering the Grand Prix winner a workshop for a year. A unique occasion, just like the one debuting at a Fuorisalone event, and in Milan's shopping streets, for those who want to lengthen their stride as an emerging designer and upgrade to international fame.

Virtual shopping
An unprecedented location at this 57th edition of the Show for Bulgari which, for the first time, will be exhibiting in the Brera Design District with a maxi, 1,000 m² installation. The project, an ensemble comprising several elements including three installation by Chilean artist Ivan Navarro, the Dutch architects' studio MVRDU and the Milanese Storage Associati architects' studio respectively, is the celebration of three of Bulgari's identification marks: color, materials and modularity, which terminate in an original making of the B.zero1 ring, one of the company's cult items. How? Thanks to Dream Machine, a sort of fantasy area where the dream of a jewel, made especially for us, comes true in an instant, even if only virtually, providing a highly futuristic buying experience. But the path that leads to this 'dream room' passes through the three conceptual installations, all inserted into a hypnotic setting called the ‘Labyrinth: the Rules of Design’. Is the procedure and concept too complex and articulate to explain on paper? Yes. The best thing is to go and see it for yourself. Time until 22nd April.
