Creative justice protecting designers.

[su_highlight background="#A26741" color="#FFFFFF"]HANDICRAFT[/su_highlight] An interview with the architect Stefano Mingaia, national co-ordinator of Giurì del Design Orafo, an independent body established in 1994 to protect the creativity and intellectual property of jewellery.
What does Giurì del Design Orafo do?

This impartial body intervenes when an exhibitor believes that a rival exhibitor has displayed copies of their products. Our task is to settle the dispute quickly and according to the Gentlemen’s agreement criteria, so as to avoid any disturbance which may hinder the day-to-day running of the fair.

How do you operate?

When we receive a complaint we open an investigation and gather evidence to support both sides of the dispute, and if necessary we check the validity of any complaints and stipulate that all copies may not be displayed or sold at the fair.

Outside the fair?

Given that Giurì has a reputation of being competent and independent, our reports are highly respected by the ordinary justice system and deemed valid points of reference for any subsequent legal actions.

As well as this, you also offer another very valuable service…

Visitors to our office inside at the Hall 8 - Room 8.0.10 at VICENZAORO are offered protection with a specific date, which means that they can enjoy protection without a patent for their designs, as introduced by new European Legislation. This protection lasts three years (though during the first year, designers can decide to register their products with the Patent & Trademark Office and have access to the classic five-year period of protection, renewable for up to 25 years) it is completely free and extremely useful, particularly nowadays what with the design of jewellery collections undergoing such rapid obsolescence.
